Lifelong Learning and Performing

Tuti Scott - Monday, August 24, 2009
My mother took us to the Concord library every Saturday and I still remember vividly when she got so excited when I started reading by author.   We became friends with the librarian who would gather books for us that she thought we would like and present them to us each week like the cherished gifts that they were!  We did not have TV in our house and spent our time making up our own entertainment in the form of plays or performances from ideas we had read or songs we had heard.  Jackson 5 songs, Judy Blume books, and the Chronicles of Narnia were all fodder for fun ‘shows’.

My sister, Dorothy Scott, took this performing and her musical talent to a professional level as an accomplished recording artist.  I took on the roles of director/producer/script writer of fundraising events in my work.   Today her work has been blended as she has created a nonprofit Heart and Soul - Healing with Music program where she shares her gifts with people who can benefit from ongoing creative learning through music and art.

One of the gifts of my new rhythm of being a consultant is the time I have and allow myself for reading and writing.  Summertime allows us the freedom to slow one’s pace and dive into a book for hours!  I am a lifelong learner and I so enjoy getting into the words and minds of authors.  I read and write like I work out – a little of this and a little of that – from the pool to the bike to a yoga class.  So my content is reflective, inspiring, and content rich and I read a chapter from each type of book a day and write a page a day on any topic that moves me.

Now I am working on incorporating the thoughts and ideas I read into the ‘shows’ we do as facilitators and coaches of workshops and executives.  Here is a list of what is currently helping shape the projects and work Imagine Philanthropy is doing in the world.  Think of it as the beachside or poolside reading list of the smart consultant/performer!
